Director of Music & Arts

The City of Promise has an opportunity for a Director of Music. Candidates should first be a believer, hear the Gospel and proclaim the praise of God. We are looking for someone who has a versatile music style with a background in contemporary and traditional gospel music. Candidates should be able to play, sing, teach and provide leadership to the artistic ministries.

The general responsibilities of the Director of Music are to oversee the incorporation of music, drama, dance, and visual arts in the corporate worship of the church. To edify God through worship in music as well as position the
artistic elements of worship to a place that complements and edifies the worship experience and preached Word, in order that a fuller experience of worshiping the Lord is accomplished. The Director will report to the Executive Staff and work to capture the vision and philosophy of the Senior Pastor
for worship, utilizing music and arts in a manner that is harmonious and therefore assists in the transformative power of the worship experience. He/she must be able to articulate and implement the vision and philosophy to other staff and volunteers who participate in the implementation process of worship for the church.

BIBLICALLY EQUIP and SHEPHERD the musicians and worship arts leaders, together with the Pastors and Leaders to guide and support the worship planning process; to support God’s vision for the church together through our Pastor, at each individual worship opportunity; to support the Biblical vision of the Senior Pastor through worship and exhortation of the Word of God by providing leadership to the music and artistic departments. The Director’s primary responsibility is to set the atmosphere for worship in tandem with the preached word. The Director will develop a long-range worship plan establishing the standards for all worship activities, collaborating with the Senior Pastor to ensure the established plans encompass and support God’s vision for the Church. He/she will be held accountable for maintaining the worship philosophy and vision during each worship opportunity through prayer, providing Biblical leadership, feedback, and mentoring, where needed, to worship/music leaders and musicians. He/she will assist in identifying other useful resources for worship arts as well as establish standards for worship activities and oversee the evaluation process of those standards in order to identify progress in achieving the vision. The Director will incorporate the arts into our worship services by motivating and encouraging drama and dance.
He/she will work in conjunction with GGH Ministries Staff to incorporate visual arts as needed. Identify and attend seminars and conferences on worship with other worship leaders as the opportunities are made available. Identify, encourage and integrate worshipers’ musical gifts into worship and special event services. Maintain a ministry of encouragement to all who offer themselves to serve in areas of our worship opportunities.

• Develop and plan major festive worship events
• Assist in planning various worship opportunities or special services that may assist in supporting the vision such as (concerts, plays, productions, etc.)
• Attend staff meetings, plan and conduct rehearsals and worship team planning meetings as often as needed

• Professed born again believer, full of the Holy Spirit; exemplified in daily living practices and relationships with others
• Possess and demonstrate intimate knowledge of the Holy Bible
• Have passion for worship and a vibrant prayer life
• Possess vision for worship and the ability to express that vision
• Possess a pastoral mind for mentoring and developing worship leaders and gifts in others
• Be familiar with and supportive of all worship styles, and be acquainted with a wide body of music and artistic worship literature
• Demonstrate leadership and proficiency in the music ministry including but not limited to reading music, playing instruments, able to teach music, sing, and direct
• Be knowledgeable in the use of worship arts and how they may be applied to the vision
• Possess administrative skills
• Work well with children and adults
